A trip to the fair

One of my favorite traditions growing up was going to the Del Mar fair on or around my birthday every year. I would eat everything in sights, ride rides, buy crap I'd never use and bake in the sun. This year it's all I wanted to do. We went to the Contra Costa fair with Michele and it was so fun to watch Sarah do all the things I loved doing. She had a blast! It was a fantastic way to spend my birthday with fantastic people!

Someone had a little too much fun...

We're Back!

I'm writing from my brand new fancy computer and I'm so excited about it. It was a Birthday Surprise from Rob. Blogging was hard from the iPad and since I'm beyond lazy I never wanted to go down stairs to blog from our crapy computer so now we're back in action.

Watching Sarah grow up these last few months has been such a joy, this girl is smart, funny and of course adorable. She's soaking up every bit of her days, learning new things, exploring without fear (mama holds her breath a lot!). Last week the phone rang and she said "hello"! I'm so in love! She's been all about dada these days, first thing she says in the morning is DADA! DADA! DADA? DADA!! After Dada it's Bo Bo and Shi Shi about 20 times. She loves being outside and gets real grumpy when it's time to go in. She's been helping me cook lately, sitting on the counter, using all utensils she can get her hands on and generally making a big mess, I love it, it's just what I dreamed about when I was pregnant.

Our little girl has been through a lot lately, ear infections, ear tubes, bladder infection, oh my! She has come out of it like a champ, now sleeping through the night and generally being the happiest baby I know. I'm so proud of her and learn so much from her everyday.

Ok we're off to celebrate my birthday with a day of the fair with Auntie Michele, can't wait!!

unexpected joy

So Rob and I only have a few holiday's that we really care about. The rest? I work. I have a nice city job that pays well on holiday's so frankly I can't remember the last time I was off for the 4th of July. I decided to take this year off and spend it with my family. Sarah and walked in the Half Moon Bay parade while Rob and my mom ran around taking tons of pictures, it was a dream come true, small town, sunny day, and being a mom, I can ask for nothing more.

father time, please slow down

3 weeks and 2 days from now Sarah will be one. The fact that I can truthfully write these words is surreal. I keep thinking back on where I was a year ago today and how excited Rob and I were. I had a big belly of love and a heart full of anticipation, it was magical. I saw a group of pregnant women getting their hospital tour the other day at work and thought back to our tour and our showers, getting the room ready, the nights laying in bed playing with Sarah dreaming of what she would be like there is no other time in life that I was so proud, until I became her mom.

Life with Sarah is pretty amazing. Watching her grow and learn on a daily basis makes me a very lucky lady. She is simply amazing. Rob and I are honored everyday that we get to be her parents, it's something that we cherish everyday. This whole mom thing is the hardest work I've ever done and ever will do and I love every minute of it.

There's a good chance this little lady will be our only child and if your only going to do it once you can not get any better then Sarah.

So Many New Tricks!

OK I see we have some serious holes to fill on this blog but for now I just have to share all of Sarah's new tricks, this kid catches on fast and I know I'm her mom and every mom says this but I really think I daughter is brilliant!
"Sarah wheres the bird" she points to the sky!!!
"Sarah where does this go" when you hand her a sock or a shoe, she puts it near her feet!! Crazy!
"Sarah where does this go" when you hand her a barrette She puts it in her hair!!!!
"Sarah where is the tree" she points to the tree...brilliant!
"Sarah wheres Mama's nose"? you guessed it...points to my nose (thanks mom!!)
Just today she pointed at a picture of Rob and said "Dada".....insane!!!!
She points to a dog and says "Gada", ok so it's a but backwards but it's close!
Sarah do you want to read a book?" she crawls to her books!! Smart!!!

She has also begun standing on her own, without holding on to anything which leaves me breathless every time. She's starting to kick in swim class and swims under water for about 2 seconds from the instructor to me, this is just adorable to watch, she is so proud of herself when she's done! This is the funnest time, every time I go to work I feel like she's a whole new kid when I get back.

On the teething front she's close to loosing the nick name one tooth wonder as I see a small slit in her bottom gums...finally! She loves raw pizza dough, sat in a booster seat the other day and is learning how to blow kisses thanks to her daddy. She kisses everything she sees including the mozzarella cheese she held for me while we were grocery shopping today, just before she bit a whole through the package and ate some. The clerk gave me my first "what kind of mother are you" look, first of many I'm sure...yay!!!

It's all happening way to fast in my opinion but every new discovery is so fun to watch, seeing the world through her eyes has been the best experience I've ever had, Rob and I are seriously the luckiest people alive!

It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown

Katie just loves Halloween. Not sure if it is the costumes or the candy she likes more but regardless it's one of her favorite days of the year. So when October rolls around we pull out the Halloween lights and decorations and get into the spirit. Living near Half Moon Bay, the pumpkin capital of the world, means you don't have to go far to find a good pumpkin. People flock from all over the bay area to buy their pumpkins at the local pumpkin patches and we are within walking distance to our favorite one, The Pumpkin Depot. To say the least we were both excited to take Sarah to pick out her first pumpkin. Being six months old of course she couldn't tell the difference between a pumpkin patch and a Christmas tree lot but regardless it was a memorable experience for both Katie and I. The patch is filled with old beat up tractors to play on, scary monsters and pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colors. With pumpkins bought and Sarah's Halloween costume in the closet all there is left to do is carve the pumpkins and walk the streets Halloween night taking in the sites and sounds of all the kids trick or treating.

The Giants win the NL West

Yesterday afternoon I spent a few hours with dad watching the Giants beat the Padres and win the National League West title. I was really excited for the most part because the Giants are my favorite team and my future husband Buster Posey plays for them. I was also a little sad because Grandpa Craig loves the San Diego Padres and since the Giants won the game the Padres were eliminated from making the playoffs. I knew grandpa would be sad with the outcome of the game. My dad made me feel better when he told me that my grandpa was used to his San Diego teams choking at the end and never winning the big games. I felt a lot better once I heard that. Go Giants!
